Zoe Smith

Zoe Smith is a Master’s student in Chemical Engineering with a BS degree in Bioengineering from Northeastern University. Her research interests include mechanobiology and microfluidics, with a focus on developing advanced in vitro platforms that enable the study of cellular responses to mechanical and biochemical cues. She is passionate about applying engineering principles to better understand disease mechanisms and advance the development of innovative biomedical technologies.

Zoe’s work combines principles of chemical engineering, bioengineering, and microfluidics to create physiologically relevant systems for investigating cell behavior and tissue function. Through her research, she aims to develop microengineered platforms that improve disease modeling and provide new insights into mechanobiology. She attended the Society for Laboratory Automation and Screening (SLAS) Boston Conference in 2026, where she explored emerging technologies in laboratory automation and biomedical research. Originally from New Haven, Connecticut, Zoe enjoys playing tennis and weightlifting in her free time.
